Erica Helm Meade The National Storytelling Conference for the year 2001 will take place in Providence, Rhode Island on July 11 to 15 at Brown University. NSN and the conference committee have invited the Healing Arts SIG to plan a Healing Arts pre-conference session on Wednesday July 11. We are very pleased and excited to announce that Erica Helm Meade will be presenting this in-depth six hour workshop. Erica believes that mythology is “the first psychology” and that stories reveal the anatomy of the human soul. Her lively pre-conference workshop will be geared toward the use of storytelling in the healing arts. It will focus on the power of story to impart encouragement and insight, to improve outlook, and help reduce stress. Erica will lead participants through a series of engaging processes to awaken what she describes as "metaphoric intelligence." She will then discuss ways of translating these ideas into the workplace. Erica Helm Meade, MA, CMHC, is a psychotherapist serving individuals, couples, and groups. She has given hundreds of storytelling performances at universities, hospitals, conferences, mental health centers, and on radio and TV in the US and Canada. In her storytelling intensives she trains professionals to use stories with youth, families and elders, in multi-cultural counseling, in hospice work, and in environmental education. She is the author of Tell It By Heart: Women and the Healing Power of Story, published by Open Court, and has published stories and articles in numerous anthologies. She is currently completing a resource book entitled The Moon in the Well: Wisdom Tales for Self, Family, and Community. Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Kudos For Website “I finally had a moment to take a look at the Healing site. It is wonderful! So easy to navigate and the graphics are just beautiful. I can't wait to read through it all. I do plan on joining as soon as I can sit still long enough to write a check. :) You are all doing such important work, a real service to the storytelling community and for those beyond its borders. I know it will have a far reaching and positive effect. Thank you for all of the time, commitment and effort each and every one of the board members have given. Please pass on my best wishes to all.” Karen Chace “Congratulations and Thank-you! Beautiful and interesting. I am looking forward to checking this site often.” Nancy Kiefer, Seattle, WA “The site looks great. You all did a great job.” Elisa Pearmain “Congratulations to the Healing Arts SIG Board, to Mark Bassett, and to all who have helped to shape this new web site! It has just the right balance of technology and words--enough symbols to suggest depth, but not so many bells and whistles that the warm, human, and useful information is obscured. I'm looking forward to the growth of this fine resource.” Jo Radner, Maine Newsletter Contents:
