Donna,

Another take from someone who has made both narrative expression and story
his life's passion and work. The very word "conflict" can be understood in
accordance to its creative roots. "Con" -- is the Latin term for "with."
"Flict" is the suffix whose meaning is "to be struck." When the two are
bridged -- the word takes on the meaning "to be struck by or with
something." The "striking" -- as to be "stuck" refers to being hit upside
the head with a differentiated sense of awareness or expanded
consciousness -- being hit by something that causes thinking in a different
way -- or seeing something differently. In this way, conflict is indeed the
healthful and essential contributor of a new, merged and differentiated
evolution -- or higher inclusive state that often results in
collaboration -- or peace. Our society has lost the meaning of this
narrative symbol and now makes it synonymous with the paradox of peace --
which is violence. In essence, violence is the result of not having honored
and acted upon the voice of conflict -- which can be non-violent if honored
as such. Said another way, violence is a result of denying and dishonoring
the dissent that resides in conflict. Conflict is the gift that tells us
something with the systems by which we live no longer works for us. When we
trace the cracks of conflict to its source through dialogue and
conversation, we are lead to its source -- which requires updating -- or an
evolved state of transformation. Making "conflict" a negative term is like
blaming the pain that is telling us we have tooth decay!

Hope this helps!

Big cheers to you and heartfelt support,

Jeffrey Courion,
