MIME-Version: 1.0 reply-type=original Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit One of my favorites is The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush. The girl shows greater wisdom than the adults in the village. I also love Jim Weiss' recording of The Bird Who Speaks from the Arabian Nights -- the person who saves the day is the sister! And in Joe Bruchac's collection The Woman Who Married the Moon there's a Native American story in which the collective power of the women in a village turn away the invaders. (I think the story is Arrowhead Finger but I'm not positive -- don't have it here.)
