One of my favorites is The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush. The girl shows
greater wisdom than the adults in the village.

I also love Jim Weiss' recording of The Bird Who Speaks from the Arabian
Nights -- the person who saves the day is the sister!

And in Joe Bruchac's collection The Woman Who Married the Moon there's a
Native American story in which the collective power of the women in a
village turn away the invaders. (I think the story is Arrowhead Finger but
I'm not positive -- don't have it here.)
