Hi Kay, I love the story of Maid Maleen, it is one of my favorites to tell. The original tale is from Grimm's but Nancy Burke, Texas teller, had done an amazing job of adapting it. You can find it in Best Stories told at the Texas Storytelling Festival. Also, Clever Manka, many versions, one found in Best-Loved Folktales of the World by Joanna Cole page 447. Lots of terrific tales in this book as well: Amazon.com: Books: Fearless Girls, Wise Women, and Beloved Sisters: Heroines in Folktales from Around the World http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0393320464/102-2091101-8420926?v=glance Also, Jackie Baldwin offers a wonderful array of stories at her site. This is just one of the many sections she has lovingly compiled. Strong Women Stories - Story-Lovers SOS Story Lists http://www.story-lovers.com/listsstrongwomenstories.html I hope this helps.
