Dear Syd,

Thank you so much for your sharing earlier this week. It reminded me of
something from Tolkien when Sam asks, "I wonder what type of story we have fallen
into?" Frodo says he doesn't know and adds "That's the way of a real tale. Take
any one that you're fond of. You may know, or guess, what kind of tale it is,
happy ending or sad ending, but the people in it don't know. And you don't
want them to."

When we are not aware that we have fallen into a story, then we become
consumed by the circumstances and problems which arise. In this mindset it is
difficult for us to decipher the story and its meaning for us in our lives. When we
stop to honor the story, we can come to recognize that the myriad problems
we encounter are nothing else but the very stepping stones of the path that
opens the heart to wisdom and compassion.
