Andre, I have no response really except that you response to the story reveals how your mind works. In actualy, from the little that I know, it is not always the truth that both parents are valued the same in Mende culture. but, we are not in the Mende culture. My son told me the story and the context of the telling. he no longer remembers who told the story, or why it may have come up. He also did not hear another version in another situataion.
