Subject: Working with people with a learning disability

X-cc: Sempster@aol.com

Hi folks

Let me first introduce my self as the convenor of the Health and Therapy
group of the Society for Storytelling in the UK. The group is in the process
of being reformed, and developing a work programe to support stoytellers . In
the meantime if there is any one out there in the UK who is currently working
with health , therapy and stories please get in touch ( even if you don't
belong to the society) as it is helpful to know who is doing what and where.

A good example of the need for this is the following request for information
that i have recently recieved:

<research projects around storytelling with people with learning disabilities.
I have 2 groups - one a group of people with mild-moderated communication
diffiuclties, where we are developing their skills and range as storytellers,
and a group of people with very profound disabilities, which is about sensory
and personal storytelling. I am putting together a funding application to do
some work in Somerset along similar lines, and have a meeting with service
providers there this Friday. I would like to know who else is doing this
sort of work, who I could perhaps contact. >>

If you are working in this field ( particularly in the UK) can you let me
know, and i can link you direct

And I will try not to lurk so much.
