Hello all, I am a new subscriber to the Healing story list serv and I'm looking forward to being part of an interesting exchange. My name is Mary Louise Chown, and I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I have been involved in "healing" storytelling for several years now.....giving workshops at our annual Palliative Care Conference, for example. I currently am working part time with a group called Manitoba Artists in Healthcare, which involved my visiting a local hospital regularly as a visiting artist. I listen to patients' stories, sometimes tell some stories of my own, and also play music in patient's' rooms and on wards. I have been finding that it is much easier to play music and then get into conversations with people that it is to tell stories....folktales/traditional/personal....and I am wondering if I am not alone in this experience. I have had a lot of experience in telling stories over the last 15-20 years, but am rather new to hospital settings. As a parting thought, I don't believe that there are "healing stories" per se, but that the listener decides if it is healing for them or not. mary Louise | ||
