Mary, I have always thought of peace as something sort of calm, but not catatonic, not necessarily a state of being so much as a way of living. To me, "peace" doesn't mean so much that there are no problems as it does that we take a different approach to solving the problems that we have. I never really thought about how that process would begin, but I suppose it would have to begin with the person dealing with conflicting parts of the self. If someone is facing a conflict with another person in w hich there can be no winner, only compromise, I would imagine that the first step in becoming open to this way of being is to accept that even within the self, there are conflicts that cannot be absolutely resolved, only managed, so that a state of balance is maintained.
