Yes April, I share your disappointment, mainly the fact that the ethical discussion managed to pull the attention. Rules are important. They create a safe ground that helps us to be careless so we can fly. But when dealing with them, we might overlook the heart. That is what I think about Bush's statement too. Better Iraq? for who? by whose rules? Although I am an Israeli, living in the center of a conflict with the rest of the world and mainly with the Arab and Muslim part, I can't overlook the frustrating position these countries are pushed into by the west, patronizing them with what is "right". Don't be mistaken, I do not agree with many of their ways. But I respect their right to keep their culture and social traditions. What I oppose is their political and religious leaders attitude towards other possibilities, other ways to live by. The main group suffering from this way are women. At least half of their society is paralyzed. How can they get any closer to something they might be dreaming about for them selves? They are pulling back to the dark ages prior to Muhammad, and turning mentally to a tribal attitude. The surviving of the fittest. That is what I think Rushdi meant. The west is not going to help them change it. In a terrible way, as happened to many of the past mega-empires, only their destruction will lead them to the search for a different balance. The question is - why should we be part of it? Instead of letting them fight their internal wars, we are messing things up. That is a mistake Israel has done in Lebanon. As you know, nothing good came out of it only many dead people, wounded families and a giant ripping in our society. Limor. Still, is anyone else disappointed that all of the dialogue about what I thought to be a very provocative and interesting article centers around the legality of posting the article to the mailing list? What do you think about the statement that Bush's war could lead to a better Iraq? > > Sincerely, > April > > > To Unsubscribe from Healingstory send the message: unsubscribe healingstory > > > | ||
