In addition to this, quite a few newspapers actively encourage their articles to be emailed, forwarded etc., even providing on-screen buttons to automatically do that. They only ask that the copyright notice be kept intact. Newspaper articles are ephemeral and the newspapers recognise that it's in their own interests to circulate their articles, and that that is exactly what people do anyway with paper versions when they pass the paper on or give clippings to friends. I agree that it's a good rule to avoid posting copyright material on the list without permission, but remember that we all own the copyright to every post we make - everything on this list is copyright, but we each tacitly grant permission to the server to circulate it to members.
