Dear Ones, Beautiful moon poem Gail! The story Christopher cites can be found as: "The First Tears" in The Man in the Moon: Sky Tales from Many Lands by Alta Jablow & Carl Withers . . . it is noted as: Algeria: Kabyle << It reminds me of a tale of the nomadic Kabyle people of Morocco or Algeria, I can't recall which. They tell of an orphan boy who was so sad, so sad. But he didn't cry because no one knew about crying yet on the earth. so no one even asked him why he was sad. The moon takes compassion on the orphan boy and comes down to earth and lets the boy shed his tears on her. Not on the earth, she warns him, for that will pollute the ground wherein your people need to grow olives and figs. >> | ||
