Laura asked me for my source for the tale I paraphrased about an orphan who weeps on the moon, but before I was done reading the rest of my email I'd received 3 other requests for the source so I'll post it to the list. What I have in my quickdex file (an Ancient program for the mac which provides a simple roladex file for a computer- I use it for all sorts of quotes and notes on stories) is - L. Frobenius Volkmarchen der Kabylen, v. 1., Jena, 1921, p. 76 I don't read German (though I recognize enough that I can tell that the title of the above is Folktales of the Kabylen people, so I'm sure I read a translation/reworking of the tale somewhere else but only wrote down the earlier source of the story. My memory is now whispering to me something about a collection of sky stories. The book had older library binding. . . (50's or 60's?) My these memory shreds be helpful! I believe this particular tale was titled "The First Tears." Christopher >Christopher, remarkable wonderful tale that also takes the image toward >a renewal. perhaps in a world of many stories, one helps the other. do >you have the source of the Morrocan tale? I feel very inspired and >nurtured by this conversation.
