Just received in the mail an announcement for what looks like an interesting FREE training program for hospital artists IN NYC coming up in May. This comes from the National Institute for Artists-in-Residence which is described as "a professional training program that prepares artists across the country to work with patients in their medical centers, clinics and hometown hospitals." The training and accomodations (!!) will be offered at various sites in NYC on May 5 through 10 and is underwritten by Bristol-Myers Squibb. The flyer informs me that the training program "features seminars, workshops and open studio led by an exceptional faculty comprised of artists, physicians, nurses and psychologists from New York's leading educational and medical centers. The program will include internships at major medical centers, case presentations, discussions and training materials that focus on the multiplicity of issues encountered in working within a medical setting." The return address for this flyer is given a the Creative Center for Women with Cancer so I deduce that there may be an emphasis on care for cancer survivors although the description looks fairly broad, related to issues beyond cancer care. I also note that several "collaborative art sites" include the Museum of Modern Art, the Whiteney Museum and various NYC art galleries so there may be an emphasis on the visual arts although again the reach of the Creative Center is said to encompass "visual, performing and literary arts." For information and application, contact Elissa Bromberg, Director, Artists-in-Residence Program, 646 336 7612, ccwc@nyc.rr.com Looks interesting!! Cristy W. Washington, DC | ||
