Tonite I went to the Sarasota Folk Club monthly concert. It begins with an hour of open mic--6 performers can sign up with a 10 minute limit. I have told there and its fun. Then there is a featured 90 minute concert. The setting is absolutely stupendous, marvelous, perfect. It is at a private sailing clubs facillity on the bay overlooking Sarasota off from St Armonds Circle. For those familiar with Sarasota it is adjacent to the Mote Marine Acquarium. Tonites featured performers were Steve Gillete and Cindy Mangsen from Barrington Vt. There were two highlights in the concert for me. Both were Steves original song. Most significant was "Healing Hands" a tribute to those who are hands on in the healing arts. Social workers, nurses, therapists, perhaps even storytellers. Unfortunately I had nothing to write with so I couldn't write down the chorus. Anyway it was beutiful. The second was a tribute to Storyteller Gamble Rogers. Also beautiful, Healing hands is available on tape $10, CD$15 and in a book of 44 of his songs The Steve Gillette Songbook for $15. the website is www.compassrosemusic.com I talked with them after the show and they were really neat folk.
