stories... Storytel (Julie) wrote: Dear Dvora, Thanks for the feedback in regards to how you introduce a personal story. I'm comfortable with people's discover for themselves that I'm telling a personal story. Thanks for bring up how you tell a personal story. I always enjoy hearing how other people approach different types of stories. My experiences have taught me that it helps me to engage my audience and to establish mutual trust between us has become a part of my process of telling the story. I just realized it's also a part of my process as I listen to a Teller. I also just realized that my mind tend drifts away from a Storytellers tale it's when the teller hasn't engaged me the listener. I'm very aware that it's impossible that I will be engaged in the tales of all Storytellers. Just as I'm aware that I won't engage in my tales all Story Listeners. For me if mutual engagement occurs, it comes from something within us that entices us to indulge in dance of the tale. And, what will entice with one person, may not entice another, as Teller and listener silently agree to "bond" or "not bond" for the yarn to spin. I thank you again for sharing the piece about your style. Maybe one day I may use it.....I don't know. I'll have to wait and see. Storytel--Julie K. I prefer to tell the story and the listeners will know it's personal as they hear the story because it's told from the 1st person. This is true when I tell one about my father, maternal grandfather, mother or my great-great grandparents Majedda the Slave from African, the 5 children that she had by the man, slave owner, from England who owned them until slavery ended in Missouri. I was born and raised in a family where reading, reading and more reading rang surpreme. Telling stories of all kinds also ranked high. One of the main ingrediaents that I've appreciated about storytelling, is the vast styles of the Storytellers. For me it's a big part of what makes Storytelling Concerts enjoyable. Thank you for sharing. Are you sure you wouldn't want to visit Minnesota? {:-) Peace, Julie Juli > Julie K, > yes, sharing one's own story is powerful, but when I tell I preface with > This is a Story.
