Greetings, all -
Just wanted to say hello & thanks to those who worked to start this
list. I've been looking for something like this forum & am looking
forward to hearing how all of you are using stories in your work.
I'm an RN who has recently (in the last 3-4 yrs) become involved in
storytelling. My focus up to now has mainly been international
folk and fairy tales, as I have a strong commitment to promoting mutual
respect among varying cultures. I haven't seen much in the literature
about sources and techniques relating storytelling to healing - certainly
nothing approaching the body of work we now have on music therapy. If
anyone has websites or text materials they can recommend, I would love to
hear about them.
I work in a small (27-bed) county hospital in Iowa, small enough that
med/surg/peds is all on the same unit. Approximately 75% of our
patients are over the age of 75. Aside from cultural variance in
approach to and perception of medical care, my other main interests are pain
management, music therapy, complementary therapies, and wellness
promotion. |
