Dear Trudy,

I can't tell you the signifance that pain serves in
yours' or anyone else's life. I can share that somewhere
in the recesses of your conscious the answers or present
and waiting to let you hear. Think about creating a
story as told by Trudy to tell her what is the
significance of pain in her life.

If, for example, pain says, "Trudy, I don't know what I'm
doing in your life. You tell me the story that got me
in it."

Or, maybe pain says, "Trudy, tell me a story about how
you allow me, pain to be of a service to you, that you
don't like."

The above may sound silly and that is okay. Silly
stories are stories too. My point is I learned more
about myself, and during my years of counseling, other
people began to discover that they could control the
"willy-nilly" emergence of their "yuck." When, through
the use of storytelling, short 1 person plays, etc. they
saw the purposes and power that they gave their "yuck,"
they also discovered that they could take those pieces of
their power back. Hence....some of the yuck faded.

I view Storytelling, mine and other peoples power comes
from the joint efforts of the Teller and Listner. If I
don't like a persons story or the way the Teller told it,
I also use these as opportunities to learn something
about me. Sometimes what I learn is that the story, the
Teller and/or both showed me something that I may not
like about me....and or anyone. As a Teller and Listner,
I determine the "what," "how," ect. The Power level of
the Story's impact, type of Power, etc. that I've allowed
it to have on me.

As I know that you well know Trudy, you and all of us are
capable of doing this for ourselves. I bet you do it
more than you realize.....so, consider giving yourself 10
pats on the back for having more understanding of Trudy
that she knows she has. Also, consider creating and
telling a Trudy a story about her wisdom, understanding
and compassion.
